In the interview, Cristiana Vignoli, CEO of Hemera, and Ilaria Decimo, Co-founder and Head of Research & Development, discuss the scientific and industrial pathway behind the REMaST®, a regenerative cell therapy technology currently in development for the treatment of spinal cord injuries.
The article explores the scientific foundation of the therapeutic platform, based on reprogrammed macrophage to activate regenerative processes in damaged nervous tissue, together with preclinical results demonstrating the ability to promote nerve fiber regrowth and functional recovery in experimental models.
A key highlight is the recent publication in Immunity, a international scientific journal by Cell Press, which featured the Hemera study on its cover. The research demonstrates how specific macrophage populations express a genetic signature associated with neuronal growth, contributing to synapse formation and axonal regeneration.
This evidence further strengthens the scientific rationale of the REMaST platform and opens new perspectives in addressing one of the longstanding challenges in medicine: the limited regenerative capacity of the central nervous system.
